FROM QUARRY TO COUNTER

Brazil. That’s where most of our stone is from.

Something geologically amazing happened there, under countless hills and mountains,
to create an abundant grouping of minerals.

We also import from Australia (Golden Sage and Verde Fuoco), India (Black Pearl, Ghibli and Smokey Mountain) and Italy, the land of marble.

Quarry Work

We chose these images for two reasons:

There’s something viscerally cool about an oversized task, like the famous pictures of men balanced on a steel girder, building skyscrapers.

Second, they drive home the idea that natural stone is natural. It has fissures. It has birthmarks. The same-named stone will vary depending on where it’s cut in the quarry.

There is simply no perfect piece of stone, just one crafted in a way to bring out it’s best.

The Factory

Excavating huge chunks of rock is only part of the job.

A stone factory comes next, where Sprinter van-size pieces are sliced, divots and natural fissures are smoothed and slabs are polished to a high shine. (The factory may put a honed or leathered finish on slabs but it comes after the step of polishing.)

All the pictures below are worthy of a look. However, the last one gets a prize for mechanical glee.

The Showroom

A quick side trip to show the ingenuity of stone cutters. From the palm planters, made with Ocean Fantasy granite, to the bathtub being carved out with a diamond-tipped auger.

The Team

Granite Imports is built on long-term relationships.

From the high quality bar set by our founder, Austin Randall, to the eye of our Brazil rep, Christine Kammers, to the staff who has been here for a decade plus.

2024 will be our best year yet. The ownership torch has been passed to employee Tim Ward who, having helped thousands of customers with their projects, brings his own commitment to integrity, service and follow through.

Thank you for sharing this love of stone with us. Contact us any time we can help with your next project.

SPECIFIC PROJECTS

NEW BUILDS

We get it. You’re juggling hundreds of decisions and shifting timelines when you build from the ground up.

So we’ll be blunt up front:
save some mental flexibility for
the countertops, especially if they play a large role in your vision.

Counters are a last step, cut and installed after the cabinets are in so they can be precisely measured.

Ideally, you should get a sense of the colors you like — the stone name and prices — at the beginning of the build.

This helps you adjust overall budget and financing, if necessary. It also lets counters drive the design versus being a stressful, I’m-so-over-this, last minute decision.

When you visit us for ideas, ask our team about the colors you like.

Which are routinely stocked? And which are one-of-a-kind looks that you may want to lock in now? — meaning you would arrange for full payment and storage with your fabricator.

Your builder most likely has a fabricator they prefer. And they’ll likely want to be a conduit for that fabricator, passing information back and forth.

This isn’t a bad thing. It eases your load to not have to have planning conversations with every subcontractor.

With that said, we firmly believe:

a) You should get to know your fabricator.

b) You should directly talk to them about what to expect from your stone.

c) You should have a layout appointment with them to discuss seams, sink cutouts and how to maximize what you most love about your slab.

This is your insurance for getting the results you’re dreaming about.
