How to Work Pantone’s Color of the Year, Classic Blue, Into Your Design

Natural Stone: Design Ideas

Pantone’s Classic Blue is the official 2020 Color of the Year. A calming hue, reminiscent of the sky at dusk, Classic Blue is a comforting tone in today’s tumultuous time. Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, noted the shade was a solid, dependable hue, chosen to challenge us to  “think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

True Blue

Pantone’s Classic Blue holds no undertones of green or violet. It is lighter than navy and darker than the sky. Like blue denim jeans, it goes well with other colors, pairing beautifully with many styles from traditional to contemporary,  and working wonderfully in many rooms of the home. If you’re a fan of this timeless tone, there are many ways to incorporate it into your home.

Classic Blue Kitchen Cabinets

Navy blue was already on the radar as a popular cabinet choice for 2019; however, the richness and versatility of Classic Blue is sure to give traditional navy some stiff competition in 2020. It works fantastically in both bath and kitchen designs. In the latter, there are many possibilities. You can go all-in with blue upper and lower cabinets, or add a splash of color while keeping it bright with blue base cabinets or a blue kitchen island.

Classic Blue Appliances

Colorful kitchen appliances are gaining traction as designers and homeowners seek to add personality to their kitchen designs. Be forewarned, however, they come with a hefty price tag.

Classic Blue Backsplash
A Classic Blue backsplash is a budget-friendly way to infuse a splash of color and personality into your kitchen or the bath design.

Classic Blue Accent Wall

If you’re not in it for the long haul, but love the looks of this shade today, a bit of Classic Blue paint as an accent wall is a low commitment way to enjoy this tone while it’s on-trend. Because it is dark, it is best to use it in small doses, where its cool tone visually recedes, making small spaces appear larger.
